My Reflection
I have been learning to write a narrative.
A narrative is a fictional story.
I really enjoyed writing this because it felt like something really fun and something that I wouldn't do at school.
Something I found challenging was making a character.
My next step is to finish the story be cause this was only part one of five parts.

I was learning to compare characters using personality and actions.
I found this tricky because Jack Will is not a very featured character.
My next step is to find more chararistics.

Wonder - Cause and Effect

My Reflection
I am leaning to use  Cause and Effect while I'm reading.
I found this easy because it was pretty easy to rearrange the columns.
My next step is to use a Cause and Effect in all of my reading.

Identifying Different Elapsed Times

My Reflection
I could find the correct times.
I found this easy to do because good, educational site to rely on.
Next time I would do more calculating instead of using a website.

Calculating Elapsed Time

My Reflection
I am learning to calculate elapsed time and say how much time has passed.
This was hard because at the beginning I had no idea how to tell the time.
My next step is to do more maths like this to improve my skills even more.

Wonder - Making a Prediction

My Reflection
I am learning to make a prediction based on the cover and blurb of the book, and the lyrics and trailer of the movie.  The most challenging thing was 'Look at the different media versions for the story 'Wonder'. What are common elements between them?' question.  My next step is to make a prediction before I read every story that I read in the future.

A Moment In Time

My Reflection
I have been learning to write about a moment in time.
I found this easy because I brainstormed lots of ideas before writing it.
Something I could do to improve my writing is use more describing words.
My next step is to use more power of 3's so I can use more describing words in my writing.`

Compare and Contrast - Possums - New Zealand vs Australia

My Reflection
I was learning about the difference in places for possums in Australia and New Zealand.
I found this tricky because I couldn't think of ideas for it.
My next step is to use this strategy on other subjects.

Maori God Art

My Reflection
We were reading Maori myths and we learnt about Maori gods and decided to do some art on them.
We got to pick a god to draw, draw over with vivid and colour with pastels.
After we described some characteristics of our god and put them in funky fonts.                                                               

Alphabet Symmetry Challenge

My Reflection
I am learning about lines of symmetry.
I found this easy because it was easy to fold them in different directions in my mind, so I knew exactly what places you could fold it if it was paper.
My next step is to get harder shapes to figure out there lines of symmetry.

My Reflection

I have been learning to write a persuasive speech.
I found putting facts into my speech challenging because there wasn't many facts that I could find because my speech was pretty much all over the place. Something I learnt was the latest teacher strike forced the government to raise the teacher's pay by 3%! I enjoyed to present my speech to the class because it was fun to present. My next step is to add more facts to my speech.

Reflection
We are learning to identify the features of persuasive writing.
It was tricky because I didn't know what some of the things actually were luckily someone told me.
My next step is to use this in my own persuasive argument.

Converting Improper to Mixed Fractions

My Reflection
I am learning to convert improper fractions to mixed number using my multiplication facts.
I found this easy because after I added it together I knew exactly how to convert it to a improper fraction. My next step is to work on harder problems because to me this was easy.

All About Matariki

My Reflection
We have been learning about Matariki. I found this work interesting because I learnt a lot of cool facts while researching. I still wonder why Tane Mahuta separated Papatuanuku and Ranginui.

Information Report About Hamilton

My Reflection

I am learning to write an information report. An information needs a beginning, middle and conclusion. It includes facts and is written in present tense. It was tricky because I kept making it to short and you can still see that it is still quite short.  My next step is to use third person while writing a information report.

My Reflection
I have been learning to write a variety of sentences to use in my stories to make them more interesting for my readers. My favourite sentence type was 'The one two three'.  A sentence that I found tricky was 'The paired double'.  My next step is to use a variety of sentences  in my writing.

Treetop Treasures

My Refection
I was learning to make a justified prediction about a text based on the cover and blurb. We read a novel called Treetop Treasures. My prediction wasn't correct because they didn't find pirate like treasure but the treasure is the pinder parakeets. Something that surprised me was how much detail the actual story has! My next step is to look carefully at the cover and blurb to help me think about the story will be about.

Anzac A-Z

My Reflection
I have been learning to find and summarise information. We have been learning about Anzac day.  Something I learnt when I did this activity was that making a caption, with every letter relating to war was very hard.

Decimal Place Value

My Reflection

I have been learning to understand decimal place value.  I found this tricky because I  thought I was so correct but I had lots of major mistakes.  My next step is to get more decimals and figure them out with more easy accessibility.

Linking Ideas in the Text to Give Greater Understanding

I have been learning to  link ideas in the text (both implicit and explicit) in the text so I get a greater understanding of the story.  I found this tricky because you have to go back and forth from the book, the laptop and the dictionary! My next step is to get better at giving reasons from the text to support an inference I made.

Statistical Investigation

Refection

I have been learning to use the statistical enquiry cycle to carry out an investigation.  My investigation was What Is Your Favourite Fruit?  I found out that mango is the favourite fruit, and pear is the least favourite fruit.  I am not sure about why pear is the least favourite though.  My next step is to do a bigger investigations with more people.

My Welcome Post 2019

Welcome to my Year 5 learning blog.  This year I am in Room 24 and my teachers are Mrs Melville and Mrs Rayner.  I enjoy Maths and Extra activities.  A goal I have this year is getting a pen licence.  I hope you will enjoy my blog and leave lots of feedback.
